● How Often Do I Need To Replace My Air Purifier Filter?
One of the most common questions we receive from our valued customers from all around the US and the globe is "how often do I need to change my air purifier filter? As the frequency or intervals to purchase an air purifier replacement HEPA filter can vary in duration, as well as price, due to a multitude of factors, the upkeep and running costs in maintaining an air purifier. Even those most advanced air purifiers need regular maintenance intervals and will periodically require filter replacements. Due to general use and wear and tear, most air purifiers require filter changes to be made according to the type of filter. Manufacturer replacement schedules provide a general guide when an air purifier filter replacement is required.
Oransi’s top-tier air purifier models only require an air purifier filter replacement every 2-3 years for its main HEPA filters.
A HEPA filter's replacement schedule can vary based on its quality and usage and will usually last anywhere from six months to five years. Such times can differ depending on the manufacturer of the air purifier, its build quality, the total HEPA filtration unit surface area and the conditions under which your HEPA air purifier functions. Cheaper, more basic air purifiers typically need replacement more often, with longer replacement intervals generally afforded to more advanced models due to engineering factors increasing the longevity of the filter.
For Oransi Air purifier replacement filters:
- Pre-Filters: Should be cleaned every 30 days and replaced every 6-12 months as it wears out (depending on the model)
- Carbon Filters: Checked every 6 months and cleaned if necessary and should be replaced from six to twelve months as it wears out
- HEPA Filters: Must be replaced every 9 to 18 months to ensure filtering efficacy. Large filters with a higher level than true HEPA such as the ERIK650A can last 2-3 years.
When owning an air purifier, it is important to check the filter every so often for the build-up of pollutants and clean (a light vacuum) to maintain optimal air filtration results when in constant use.
The larger the filter’ surface area, the greater its ability to capture either dust or chemicals. A larger, higher-quality filter (made for commercial-level applications) will typically last longer than those smaller filters found in residential air purifiers and will output a higher filtration level, especially when combined with an activated carbon filter.
When the filters become dirty, an air purifier filter replacement is usually required. Replace the pre filter, the activated carbon filter and the HEPA filter when the respective indicators light up. Please check the user manual, as every specific purifier will indicate this in a different way
● How Do I Know When I Need An Air Purifier Replacement Filter?
As we live our busy lives with a million-and-one things on our minds, sometimes it’s difficult to remember when you last replaced your air purifier filter, especially if that time was over a year ago. Here at Oransi, we understand how busy people are, which is why our units will alert you (via display unit) when filters need to be replaced. This feature gently reminds its owner visually or audibly (through an LED indicator or beeping tone) that the filter inside has to be replaced or cleaned. That’s one less thing for you to have to remember so you can get on with your day doing the things you love, and not worrying about the details.
The replacement intervals will vary depending on the duration of use and air quality in the environment which it operates. The indicator light on an air purifier will activate when the filter is too contaminated or no longer effectively produces clean, fresh air, notifying you when the air purifier filter replacement is required. We highly recommend actioning this filter replacement notification as soon as it occurs, as a faulty, damaged air purifier which fails to filter pollutants and particulates may potentially damage the components inside the air purifier, making the replacement a costly exercise if the whole unit has to be replaced instead of just the filter.
Knowing the best time to change filters can be confusing, and not all brands and models feature this important indicator. This is why Oransi air purifiers come with filter check indicators as a standard, as we believe in your health and safety, and a filter which is not working properly is not doing what we promised to do: make the best HEPA air purifiers for clean, fresh air for you.
Take Note: Regardless of the recommended intervals for the particular make or model, trust your senses, changes in smell, sound, or visual indicators may signal an air purifier filter replacement is needed. Best-practice is to replace or clean your filter as soon as you notice a significant accumulation of dirt and contaminants, adversely impacting performance
● Why Do I Need To Replace My Air Purifier’s Filter?
Each and every air purifier filter comes with a set lifespan. The filters within your air purifier have to be changed or washed periodically as part of the ongoing maintenance of your air purifier. If an air purifier is operating continuously inside your house, your family experiences irritant-free, healthy and fresh air every day. This is because the filter has captured those impurities.
When air moves through these filters, dust, pet dander, and other allergens and contaminants are trapped and accumulate over time before saturation of the filter is reached. This explanation also applies to absorptive filterings such as carbon, that capture airborne odor clusters and gaseous pollutants.
● How Do I Know When I Need An Air Purifier Replacement Filter?
A filter that's filled with collected pollutants eventually and gradually loses effectiveness. Aside from running out of capacity for newly-trapped particulates, air cannot flow through as efficiently with dirt-saturated filters. A filter clogged with pollutant build-up through months or years of continuous use slows down the cleaning process, making your air purifier work harder. Worn-out filters will let too much air through without proper filtration.
Air purifiers have one job, and that is to filter your indoor air and purify it before releasing it back into your home. When the filter becomes too dirty or clogged, it can’t properly clean your indoor air. Your air will still be pulled into the purifier but it will just the contaminated air back out without cleaning it.
- Allergy symptoms become more prominent;
- Dust visibility accumulates on around, or insight the air purifier unit or filter; or
- You notice more dust on furnishings, floors etc
It is very much recommended to replace your air purifier as you are no longer reaping benefits from the unit’s operation.
Changing the air filter will make your air purifier last longer. As a result, regularly replacing the filter can keep your air purifier running at its optimal state.

Remove larger micron contaminants from the air. On average the pre-filter is designed to last up to 12 months of continuous use. They provide filtration of the larger particles such as dust, which will extend the longevity of the HEPA filter.
Usually the main filter and the “powerhouse” (in terms of filtration efficiency and effectiveness) in an air purifier unit. High-quality and high-rated units such as the MERV18 Erik 650A Air Purifier collects 99.99%+ and has a main filter life of approximately 30 months of continuous operation. Our other HEPA filters have a life of 9 to 12 months. Similar to the other filter types, the environment in which it is operated in can determine the filter’s effective life.
Activated Carbon Filter
Primarily designed to remove odor from the air. A favourite in households, especially those with pets indoors or smoke because of its ability to adsorb gases and odors. Carbon Filters are commonly combined with HEPA filters in premium air purifier units.
● How Do I Take Care Of My Air Purifier Filter?
You should also ensure that your air purifier is maintained appropriately with a regular filter check routine and replacement schedule to continue to function optimally. Cleaning your filter with a light vacuum every couple of months is the best way to take care of your air purifier filter. We do not recommend pressing hard against the filter with a vacuum, or washing your air purifier filter as this may damage the filter’s integrity and accelerate wear-and-tear.
Changes to habits such as reducing smoking inside, and being aware of entering dust (e.g. during a dust storm or windy day), smoke and smog (that time of day when roads are most busy) and dirt into your home will greatly increase the lifetime of your filter. Neglecting the air purifier filter replacement schedule for your unit may cause harmful contaminants, particles, and bacteria to recirculate around the room.
It is recommended that you perform the following additional activities to properly maintain the air purifier:
- Clean the exterior housing as required by wiping with a soft, dry cloth
- Use a warm, moist towel for stains
- Do not use hazardous liquids and chemicals like ammonia, peroxide, or scouring powder, as they can damage the surface of the device
- Clean inlet and exhaust vents/valves by wiping with a warm dry cloth
