Activated carbon is the best at general odors. This is due to the highly porous structure. This includes pet odors, musty smells and some cooking odors.
Note: some VOCs such as formaldehyde cannot be removed by carbon. The TrueCarbon filters are treated to give it a broader range including formaldehyde.
For a smaller room you may see an improvement in as little as 15 minutes. A larger room will take longer to clean. If the source of the odor is still present the effect will likely be less.
